We recently asked our school leadership some questions that help illustrate the unique nature of St. Andrew’s School:

What is a tutorial education and how is it helpful to children at the Ranch?

Tutorial education involves testing each student upon admission to find their strengths and weaknesses, pairing them with appropriate staff, and giving individualized attention when needed. This helps us determine each student’s cognitive ability, achievement in subject content, and learning styles. The students are then tutored in 1-on-1 and small group settings.

How does an ICP benefit kids at the Ranch?

An Individualized Curriculum Plan is a plan we devise to meet the unique needs of each student. It is based on former school records, testing data, and academic progress at SAS. This is beneficial to students because it recognizes the different levels of a student’s cognitive ability and achievement.  A student may be behind in math and ahead in reading.  The ICP can be customized accordingly.

What is Dr. Cox’s role?

Dr. Elizabeth Cox is a school psychologist who further evaluates students who have specific learning challenges to equip our staff in how to effectively teach.  She shares her results and insights in order to help students, sometimes detecting undiagnosed learning disabilities.  She has graciously volunteered her services to SAS for many years, and we are extremely grateful for her.

Is there anything else that you think would be important to share?

The goal of SAS is to introduce the students to Jesus and witness His transforming work in their lives.
