When Paul's assistant, Epaphroditus, became ill, Paul said Epaphroditus' death would have been sorrow upon sorrow. Sometimes, God lets people get sick and stay sick for a long time. Sometimes God miraculously heals people from their sickness. When we go through hardship, it can be a result of Satan, however, God is always in control. God will allow sickness and hardship if it brings us or others into a right relationship with Himself. Our bodies are amazing and one thing we realize is that sin has entered the world and death is upon us. Sometimes God uses our sickness so that other people can be a blessing to us. Though Epaphroditus was not and evangelist, but only serving and evangelist, he almost died serving Christ. Epaphroditus was in the will of God and still got sick. We should be like Timothy and fulfill the needs of others and we should appreciate someone who genuinely cares about us.
There are a lot of people who find it difficult to love and be loved. Love is not about feeling. The only way anyone gets saved is if God opens our hearts. He takes away the heart of stone and gives us a heart of flesh. If the Apostle Paul had not been mistreated in Acts 16, the jailer would not have been saved. Is is believed that the church at Philippi, in part, begun by this jailer and his family. No one can escape God, we will either face Him as His dearly loved child or as His enemy.
Three are the most important questions in life are: Who do you think you are? Where do you think you are going? What do you think you are doing? Pastor Wood teaches about these questions and how they shape our lives. Everything we do now is of eternal significance because we should be doing it for Jesus. Our greatest point of blessing is often tied to our greatest pain.
What could possibly make a person love their enemies? Why does God allow evil? Does anyone know the secret sins we commit? These are a few of the questions that Pastor Wood teaches about in the 5th chapter of 2 Kings.
Sex is designed by God to be an expression of love between a man and a woman who are married to each other. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. If these statements, which are from God, were obeyed, our nation and world would be in a much better condition. We must be content with what we have. The Lord will take care of all of His children and give them all they need. He has promised it.
If we are in Christ, we do not have to be afraid, even in a dungeon. Joseph's master Potiphar could have had Joseph killed, but instead, he had Joseph thrown in a dungeon. There are times when we will pray and God will not answer the way we would like. We might be tempted to think that God is against us, but that is not how we should think. Some people only study the Scriptures so that they can try and manipulate God to get what they want. Instead, we need to pray to God, let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done. There is never a panic in Heaven. If we love God, all will go well. If we know God, whatever is happening is within His sovereign control. God has all power.
