Sex is beautiful and God's plan. Unfortunately, the world experiences painful consequences for not following God's plan. For those who follow Christ sex is part of God's plan for His creation. All of us have to learn to say no to our desires that are not in God's plan. Desire is natural and wholesome and God made us to have desires. However, God's word teaches us which desires are within His will and which desires are not. We are not to awaken love until the time is right. The abortion problem in America is due to the rampant sexual sin that is rampant in America. God is the one who created sex. He designed our bodies for each other in the context of marriage. We are not to stir up sexual desires in ourselves or others. God's plan is for His glory and our good.
Pastor Wood finishes his sermon on Discerning the Difference focusing on these two phrases: Attraction vs Lust | Sex is designed by God to be an expression of love between a man and a woman who are married to each other. Forgiveness vs Trust | Forgiveness is always only based on grace. Trust is earned. To learn more about Discerning the Difference or to purchase a copy of the book, please contact us.
In this passage Dinah had done nothing wrong, and yet she was raped. This evil was not due to anything that Dinah had done. Rape is not the fault of the person abused, the sin falls on the rapist. God designed such a wonderful, beautiful thing with love, marriage, then sexual relations. Jacob's sons plotted to murder the men of Shechem. The muder of every man in Shechem was sin and not okay. The only good out of this story is God. We all mess up, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Sometimes when we try to do the right thing we end up messy and even messier then we know. We need to have confidence in Christ alone.
