From Jim Wood, Founder of Wears Valley Ranch:

Are you grateful? We have been blessed with one of the most beautiful autumns I can recall. An older friend who lives in the area, and is a famous photographer, said he believes it is the most spectacular display of fall colors he has ever seen. We are certainly grateful for God’s beautiful creation.

Wonderful things are happening at the Ranch. Several new boys and girls have moved in the homes and are thriving with the others. Several have prayed to receive Christ and are excited about what God is doing in their lives.

Meanwhile, many lives are in turmoil. In our nation and world there are many distressing circumstances. Many of our friends are going through health trials or grieving the loss of loved ones. We do not fear, and although we grieve, it is not as those who have no hope.

We are commanded in 1 Thessalonians 5:16 to “give thanks in all circumstances.”

How is this possible? When our focus is on feelings or circumstances, it can seem unrealistic to aim for a life that overflows with thankfulness. When our focus is on the Lord and his love for us, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for his amazing grace.

We are not commanded to feel good about our circumstances. We do not have to be pleased with the way we feel. We are told to fix our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), to set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2). We are to focus on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:8).

This is the context in which our hearts overflow with thankfulness (Colossians 2;7). So whatever you are going through this Thanksgiving, I pray that youknow peace that passes understanding.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6).

Know that as we pray, we thank God for you!

(We are thankful for your support. Make a gift here.)
